If you're affiliated with a University (and have a University e-mail), you can get NYT's TimesSelect for free here.
I wish I'd known about that earlier!
Anyway, I thought it would be useful to some of you. I was told .edu addresses, but my .ac.uk worked just fine too. I don't know about any other countries.
